2012 Opel Ampera Review

The revolutionary Ampera celebrated its world premiere at the 79th Geneva Motor Show. General Motors Europe President Carl-Peter Forster, said the extended-range electric vehicle and announced plans to put the car into production in late 2011.

The Ampera also be available with RHD in the UK by the sister brand Vauxhall, Opel.

"Ampera further demonstrates GM's leadership in the electrification of the automobile," says Carl-Peter Forster. "It 'an innovative Voltec electric propulsion system is a type of game-changing technology, the automotive industry must energy and environmental challenges. "

The five-door four-seat Ampera is influenced by the design language of Opel's award-winning sculptural art, combined with German precision, incorporating various elements of innovative style of the Flextreme and GTC concept car on show

"There could be no more appropriate way to celebrate 110 years of Opel innovation in the automotive industry by the revelation Ampera," says Alain Visser, Vice President GME Opel.

Ampera wheels are driven electrically at all times and speeds. For journeys of up to 60 kilometers (MVEG), it runs on electricity stored in its 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery, and emits zero CO2. When the battery power is exhausted, power from a motor-generator online Ampera extends over 500 km.

Ampera can be plugged into any household 230 V to reload. GM Europe is to analyze the requirements of a charging infrastructure for electric cars with energy companies, including Iberdrola of Spain.

Ampera Gets the power and sophistication of the powertrain Voltec

The revolutionary Ampera will be the first zero-emission electric car powered in Europe is suitable for everyday driving. With its Voltec electric propulsion system that provides strong acceleration and a high degree of sophistication, the five-door Ampera seats four passengers in comfort, offers a useful trunk for luggage, and has a wide range of over 500 km.

"Driving electronically is not only the ecology," said global vehicle, the line's management team and chief engineer Frank Weber. "Driving is fun electronically. Screenshot, silent torque of 370 Nm in the right foot seems to fly!"

Electricity is Ampera wheels at all times and speeds. For journeys of up to 60 kilometers (MVEG) is powered by electricity stored in the tip, 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery.

Driving electric battery provided, leaving Ampera zero CO2 emissions. When the battery power runs out, an engine generator seamlessly provides gasoline/E85-fueled electricity to power the electric drive unit while maintaining a battery equivalent. This approach is an area of ??500 km, until the battery can be recharged by plugging the vehicle on the train and accounting for normal domestic 230V socket.

Ampera gives the driver confidence and peace of mind

Unlike conventional battery-electric car, the Ampera to remove the "range anxiety," to give confidence and peace of mind that the driver will not be stuck in the battery.

"A system of lithium-ion battery is the key to getting the Ampera into the hands of consumers," says Hans Demant, GME Vice President Engineering. "Engineers of our research and development in Mainz -Kastel, Germany, tested the battery around the clock, 365 days a year to ensure it meets the expectations of our customers. "

Ampera battery will be manufactured by GM in production facilities in the first lithium-ion batteries will be operated by a major automaker in the United States. More than 220 lithium-ion cells in a T-shaped pack provides plenty of power. The unit almost silent electric delivers 370 Nm of instant torque, the equivalent of 150 horsepower, zero to 100 km / h in about nine seconds and a top speed of 161 km / h.

The Ampera is well suited to daily driving time from most European customers. For example, about 80 percent of German drivers travel less than 50 km per day.

Opel believes that electric kilometers driven Ampera will cost about one fifth compared to a conventional gasoline vehicle, the current price of fuel.
